Our Story

Designer Sharone Chin learned to sew from her mom when she was a little girl. Utilizing her mom’s dress scraps she would sit next to her and hand sew little bags which is still a passion to this day. During high school she learned more techniques from her grandmother such as using a butter knife to create consistent skirt pleats becoming proficient enough to make hers and a few girlfriends’ prom dresses. Despite a career in technology and being busy raising a family she always maintained creative pursuits, continuing to design and style hack outfits, and developed her own jewelry line, Rebel Mettle Jewelry.

Having grown up in California, spent years as a competitive swimmer, lived through multiple pregnancies and several tattoos later, Sharone started to notice the effects of the many years of sun and pregnancy melasma showing up on her skin. Self taught, she began to understand the cumulative effects of UV exposure as it relates to skin damage and aging, and she also learned through her tattoo artists that ink breaks down faster when consistently exposed to sunlight. The first sun protection accessory Sharone designed was a pair of arm sleeve sun gauntlets long enough to protect her tattoos from sun exposure, and pretty enough to wear every day with street wear. Through feedback from friends and lots of curious folks interested to find practical, wearable solutions to protect their skin every day, her designs, fabric and aesthetic evolved. Realizing that to age gracefully one must invest in their future self, she began creating sun protective accessories suitable to wear every day to enhance a busy person’s existing daily wardrobe (we call it UPF street wear). With a strong attention to detail, she makes her original designs with the most luxurious UPF 40-50+ fabrics that are breathable, dry quickly and retain their shape to suit a busy person’s lifestyle. She launched H E L I A D E S in 2016, the first sun protection accessories street wear brand to blend functionality, quality and style - designs that while practical are still fashionable. Her original sun protection designs are meant to flatter all body shapes, protect our skin to ward off premature aging and sun damage, and accessorize the outfits we work so hard to put together allowing personality and your unique style to shine through.
